Mr. Johnson goes beyond helping with the formation of the non-profit by providing training for board members in real estate development and financing. He has the most comprehensive and informative training program for non-profit board members that I have seen in my 30 years in this business. It provides board members with the knowledge they need to make this project succeed, and to help them sustain their organization and build capacity for future projects.
JOHN P. BAKER
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ROANOKE REDEVELOPMENT AND HOUSING AUTHORITY
He has brought consensus to a divided area, provided excellent Training for the Board of Directors of what is now the Roanoke Neighborhood Development Corporation, a 503 C (3) community development corporation and has moved the revitalization effort ahead much faster than anyone could have imagined fourteen months ago. In fact, many citizens say he has done more in fourteen months than has been done in fourteen years. If you are serious about wanting to move a development project forward, whether it is a new project or a revitalization project, F.A. Johnson can pull it together for you.
PHILLIP F. SPARKS
CHIEF, OFFICE OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CITY OF ROANOKE, VA
As President of the Laney-Walker Development Corporation, I am pleased to provide a recommendation for F.A. Johnson Consulting Group. I have known Mr. F.A. Johnson for 10 years. He organized the Laney-Walker Development Corporation and prepared both a business plan and a master plan for the organization’s activities. He guided the development of a Two Million Dollar, 26,000 square foot shopping center. This project was completed on time and under budget. The F.A. Johnson Consulting Group has the ability to bring a diverse group of individuals, community leaders and business owners together in order to successfully complete a project.
PRESIDENT, LANEY WALKER DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
Mr. Johnson has done development and consulting work for Livingstone College, and Livingstone Entrepreneurial Development Company, and the First Episcopal District of the A.M.E. Zion Church. Mr. Johnson’s firm has always provided expert professional advice and development services which have resulted in the ability of the above entities to meet their goals within all expectations.
BISHOP R. L. SPEAKS
SENIOR BISHOP, A.M.E. ZION CHURCH
I have known Mr. Johnson since 1988 when he was asked by the City of Augusta to identify and develop an impact project within the historically black business district of downtown Augusta. Mr. Johnson delivered a very successful project as requested under the most difficult of circumstances, and in the process he organized a neighborhood development corporation that has since initiated many other projects.
GEORGE A. PATTY
DIRECTOR, COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT CITY OF AUGUSTA, GA
The City of Wilmington recently hired the F.A. Johnson Consulting Group to make a facility needs assessment for a 100+ year old church. We needed information about the structural condition of the church, potential uses, renovation costs and means to immediately stabilize the building to prevent its collapse. The F.A. Johnson Consulting Group produced a report that provided the answers we needed within the time frame we asked for. Based on the information provided by Mr. Johnson’s firm, we are now in the process of renovating the church building for an arts and entertainment facility. Without the quick and professional response by the F.A. Johnson Consulting Group, this fine structure would have likely been demolished.
PHILIP E. SMITH
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT MANAGER, CITY OF WILMINGTON, NC
I have worked with and interacted with the F.A. Johnson Consulting Group extensively and have found their counsel to be extremely useful in both implementing specific projects, as well as establishing a city-wide plan of action. The construction of the Armstrong Galleria serves as another example of Mr. Johnson and his firm’s ability to successfully balance the demands of multiple property owners with the demands and requirements of community groups and City officials. Under F.A.’s leadership, this $2 million project was completed on time and under budget.
COMMISSIONER, DISTRICT 1, AUGUSTA-RICHMOND COUNTY, GEORGIA
Mr. Johnson has prepared an overall space needs program, relocation of the District Office to a campus like setting at a cost of $2 million, clinic relocations and currently is our Development Manager of a $7 million new downtown clinic in the central business district of Augusta, GA. His work has included numerous site evaluations, working with a large health board staff. His work has been exemplary. To date, all projects have been completed within our under budget.
FRANK M. RUMPH, M.D.
DISTRICT HEALTH DIRECTOR, EAST CENTRAL HEALTH DISTRICT
With his guidance, we were able to develop a preventive maintenance plan, reorganize and improve our cleaning services, and in a very short period of time bring our maintenance department up to standards. The advice received from him enable us to improve not only the standards, but to improve the overall appearance of the campus. We here at Paine College gladly recommend him as a consultant.
QUINCY L. ROBERTSON
VICE PRESIDENT FOR ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL AFFAIRS, PAINE COLLEGE
Initially, Mr. Johnson worked with the college to assist us in our land developing activities. I was extremely impressed by, not only his vision and energy, but the depth of his expertise and experience. Without a question, he exhibited strong managerial skills, as well as an acute grasp of financial management and financial packaging. He was someone who brought to the table a plethora of experiences that benefited Livingstone College immensely.
BERNARD W. FRANKLIN
PRESIDENT, SAINT AUGUSTINE’S COLLEGE
F.A. Johnson Consulting Group completed the Castle Street Development Action Plan and Developer’s Manual ahead of schedule. The plan and manual are implementable and will accelerate the process of revitalization of Castle Street. F. A. Johnson served as the Director for this project. F. A. worked with the City and the Castle Street Association from the initial conceptual stage, up to the completion. F. A. Johnson Consulting Group made every effort to involve all the stakeholders in the planning process, by questionnaire or by personal contact. I found F.A. and the entire F. A. Johnson Consulting Group Development Team to be very knowledgeable, cooperative, and pleasant to work with. I also found the quality of their work to be outstanding.
ARCELIA WICKER, SR.
DIRECTOR OF PLANNING, CITY OF WILMINGTON, NC
Mr. Johnson was able to develop a rapport with diverse interest groups, property and business owners, business and community leaders. Although some difficulties developed later which were beyond the control of Mr. Johnson, the Housing Authority of the City of Asheville was very pleased with the accomplishments and achievements of Mr. Johnson in fulfilling the contract between F.A. Johnson Consulting Group, Inc. and the Housing Authority of the City of Asheville.
LAWRENCE D. HOLT
DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ASHEVILLE HOUSING AUTHORITY
The Western North Carolina Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church selected Mr. Johnson and his firm to provide development/consultation services in connection with a $1.8 Million Gynmatorium Project at Camp Dorothy Walls in Black Mountain, North Carolina. That project was completed to the great satisfaction of my client. Without the assistance and direction of F.A. Johnson, this project could not have been completed within the available budget. Mr. Johnson assisted with the selection of a lender, negotiations with the lender, selection of architect, selection of engineers and coordinated all aspects of the project. F.A. Johnson’s talents were absolutely critical in the prompt and profession resolution of an environmental problem which arose during the critical early construction phases of the project. His contacts in government and regulatory agencies enabled us to secure necessary EPA documents in amazingly short order to keep the project on target, both in terms of time and budget.
